Just a few years ago, business was booming and people were moving upwards in life. Builders were building new homes for people, and the property market experienced a huge boost. In recent months however, things have drastically changed, and everywhere you turn you are bombarded with news of the recession. Are we surprised at this dramatic turn or was it unavoidable? How could we not foresee the state of things today, as surely it was obvious that prices could not continue to go up and up and up? All good things must come to an end, and unfortunately that end is now.
The ongoing recession is affecting everybody from all walks of life. All aspects of the economy have been affected; with people spending less, house prices falling, and businesses losing money. People all over the country are losing jobs as companies are forced to cut down on their work forces due to the lack of consumer spending. The vicious circle has started and continues to affect us all.
Home owners and buyers have been hit by the market conditions, and struggle to keep up. House prices have fallen dramatically, and home owners are struggling to pay their mortgages. Investors and buyers are dwindling as it is become increasingly difficult to buy a home with the unrealistic deposits required and perfect credit scores. Lenders are unable to help as they cannot recoup their losses, and banks unwilling to offer low rate loans to new buyers for fear of foreclosure. Many home owners look to re-mortgage their homes in the hope of getting lower interest rates, but banks are unwilling to offer them better deals, as they struggle to keep up with their falling profits.
Many households are struggling with debt, unable to keep up with payments. Credit cards have long been a way to buy things otherwise out of our reach, and the recession has made repayments more difficult. As we are all beginning to realise the peril of spending and opt instead to cut back and try to save, retail companies and shops are suffering the brunt. The vicious circle continues to us all.
Everywhere you turn at the moment you hear about the recession and the ongoing effects throughout the country. People losing their jobs; unable to support their kids. People losing their homes; unable to pay their mortgage. Companies going bust with a decrease in consumers. Builders out of work, and people unable to buy a home. The news at the moment is very depressing, and inspires you to turn the television off instead of watching. The less you hear, the less you know about it, and the less you are affected. It is however, not the time to disillusion yourself, but instead to face up to the current ongoing and make plans for yourself. Being forewarned is being forearmed, and there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Things may seem bad at the moment, but if you prepare yourself for all eventualities, you will come up trumps.
