San Diego’s image as a modern and vibrant city has received a boost recently with two major building projects that will enhance the reputation of the town. Firstly a new pedestrian bridge has been announced, which will link Petco Park with the Port of San Diego, crossing Harbour Drive. The bridge will be an iconic landmark for the city, an attractive modern addition to the skyline. At a cost of $26.8 million, the bridge does not come cheap, but city councilors say the project will improve the reputation of the city and is worth the cash.
And across town, San Diego’s sizeable student population will also benefit from a new building project. A new student center at the UC San Diego has opened which will provide students with a range of facilities that they had to do without. The Price Center East cost $64 million to build and finally opened to students last month. It boasts a range of facilities including stores, restaurants and performance spaces, bookshops, cafes and computer facilities. Students felt that the social facilities of the university were letting them down, and have welcomed the new center, saying that it will foster a greater sense of community on campus. Students are an important element of the city of San Diego, and the city believes in investing in them, and the future.
It is not surprising that San Diego values its student population – it benefits from a highly qualified young workforce, with over a third of over-25s holding a bachelor’s degree or higher. As a prime location for business, San Diego attracts young people and has a young and vibrant workforce with 32 as the median age.
Recent developments in the housing market in the area are good news for many young buyers. Low mortgage rates and an abundance of foreclosure deals, affordability in the real estate market is rising, and real estate experts are predicting that it will continue to rise over the next year. So it is a great time for first time buyers to enter the market and find a good deal on a property.
And it is no wonder that San Diego is a popular choice with young buyers. The city was listed as one of the top one hundred places to live in the USA this year in a list put together by Relocate-America. The list is based on statistics and information from cities and towns all over the nation on areas such as crime levels, schools, the local economy and the jobs market. But local residents also have a say, and those in San Diego think it is a great place to live, with good employment opportunities, exciting night spots and great outdoors facilities. The survey also found a good range of real estate for all budgets, and reported that the city has a great neighborhood feel and strong community.
And the stretches of gorgeous beach and year round great climate work in San Diego’s favor too!
